Nutritious Yumminess!

We thought you’d like to know why we use the ingredients we do and to show our thinking behind our baked treats so that ingredients are kept to a minimum. This isn’t about cost saving and making more profit – we’d use cheap fillers if we wanted to do that – but it’s about maximising the taste and nutrition without going too human. By that, we mean as human beings we love foods that are generally high in sugars, salt, and fats - after all isn’t that what the food industry encourage us to eat?

What we think of as bland, to our doggy pals, is awesome! Let’s be honest, they’ll generally eat anything, but why not give them complementary treats that contain real fruit and no gluten or dairy products which some dogs have sensitives to (they also get enough of these in complete foods). Our ingredient choices are based on having good nutritional value, whilst still being yummy. All the following items, of course, are added in moderation as fruit can be high in natural sugars, and too much fibre can cause digestive issues too.

Our main ingredients:

Apples are a great source of Vitamins A & C, potassium (which helps with normal functioning of cells), and antioxidants. They are also low in protein and fat. We use the peel too, so they have a higher fibre content which helps to maintain a healthy weight and aid digestion.

High in potassium and Vitamins B6 & C, bananas are also high in fibre, aiding digestion, as well as biotin, copper and magnesium, which promotes bone growth, absorb vitamins and the helps the body in protein production.

Blueberries are low in calories and are high in Vitamin C, fibre, and phytochemicals. They also contain antioxidants, which help fight off free radicals and, as studies show, can reduce cognitive dysfunction and brain aging, so great for senior dogs.

Pumpkin is rich in fibre and contains important vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamins A, E, and C, and potassium and iron. It’s great for digestion and can help with diarrhoea and constipation, plus is good if your dog finds it difficult to release anal glands.

We use only small amounts of coconut oil to improve the texture and moisture of the treats. The oil’s saturated fats contain mainly Medium Chain Triglycerides, which are ‘good’ fats. More about the benefits of coconut oil can be found here - Benefits of Coconut Oil – AKC.

Peanuts are an excellent source of protein and healthy fats, Vitamins B & E and niacin.

We make our own doggy peanut butter so we can be sure that it doesn’t contain Xylitol (Birch Sugar), palm oil, salt, sugar or any added oils. Moderation is the key here, but most dogs love it, whether used as a calming aid on a Lickimat or baked in a treat.

These little flaxseeds can pack a punch! High in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids (good fats), fibre and protein. Fibre aids digestion whilst the protein helps provide energy and aids the immune system. According to PETMD, it has other benefits too. We use Flaxseed for all these reasons plus it’s our preferred vegan egg replacement.

Rice is gluten-free and contains fibre (aiding digestion), vitamins (especially B2, B9 & D) and minerals, all of which are essential to health.

Oats are a good source of Vitamins E, K, B6 & B9, soluble fibre, calcium, potassium, and other minerals. A great alternative to wheat or dogs with sensitive tummies, we only use gluten free varieties. Fibre aids digestion and may be good for a dog’s skin and coat.

All our products are complementary dog treats, meaning they do not offer your dog a complete, balanced meal. Treats in general are about engaging and rewarding your dog… maybe they’ve done something you like, or you need to distract them, maybe they have behaved themselves or you use them as part of your training… or maybe it’s just because you want to give them something woofalicious!

Our girls love treats and it strengthens the bond between us, although they get very vocal when they feel it’s the right time of day for a little something extra….! We’ve tried to make our treats as healthy and scrumptious as possible for your pooch, using gluten free ingredients, delicious proteins and real fruit pieces. We hope you and your dogs love them as much as we do.
